I know several cases when officers permitted such re entry but your salary structure should commence as though you are recruited afresh.   Please contact IG of Police and give such petition explaining your difficulties.

Rejoining police or any other organisation after acceptance of resignation will be a fresh appointment.

An experienced officer is better than a fresh recruit and the dept is paying a starting salary.  Always be optimistic and get the petition drafted by a good writer and establish contact with erstwhile superiors, colleagues and get in touch with your association, so that the path may become smooth.  They may accept it or not makes no difference to you and it all depends on your past track record.
