Signing and stamping of bills

(Querist) 29 March 2012 This query is : Resolved
Dear Sir,

I work for a public listed company. Recently my company had given me a authorize signatory stamp.

We had a dispute with a Transporter and he gave me his bills and told me to sign and stamp it.

I stamped it with authorized signatory and signed it. does signing and stamping of the bills means that we need to pay the transporter the amount which is written in the bills. The bills are inflated and I had only provided the acknowledgment.

Does acknowledgment of bills means that it has to be paid?

Kindly help

what have you mentioned while signing the bills ?

when did you sign it ?

send a immediate letter to transporter mention that you have signed acknowledgement of receipt of the bills but the bills are highly infalted and it would not be possible to clear the same

Signing as an acknowledgement do not ipso facto conclude that you are agree with the contents of the bill. In business transactions, clarifications and subsequent correspondence play a vital role in determining the real controversy.

You follow the direction of sethi.

mere acknowledgment of receipt is not admission of the bill. After receiving the bill, the same will be subject to verification. You can point out any contradiction / foul play to the issuer of the bill any time.

Act as advised by Mr.Sethi

Signing for Acknowledgement for bill is only acceptance and receipt of the documents not acceptance of contain in bill.

Correctly advised by Mr.Sethi, follow the path.

I think you have not provided full facts. You have not mentioned whether you have been declared as an authorised signatory, by whom and for what purposes?
