Retal income nri

Querist : Anonymous (Querist) 29 November 2011 This query is : Resolved 
sir,
i am NRI, and own flat in pune which is rented.
my wife is indian resident and stay in india.
is rental income is taxable for me.
yearly rent i will receive is @ 1,50,000INR.
please guide.
If it is taxable then can i show that income is wife's income??
she is co-applicant in home loan and a housewife.

You have not mentioned in your query whether you derive any other income from Indian sources, in case your reply is negative then it is optional for you to file your tax returns since the gross income doesnot cross the threshold limit of Rs.1.80 lakhs/(as prescribed by Finance Act 2011 relevant to the FY 2011-12).
