Fixed deposits legal heirs

(Querist) 21 August 2018 This query is : Resolved
1. My father has FD on his mother's name and nominee is his sister. My father is no more now. Can I claim the FD amount ? Am I the legal heir of my grand mother ? If yes , what is the procedure to claim ? Coz bank is not saying the amount of FD.
2. If bank has disbursed the amount to nominee, an if iam a legal heir can I claim the amount ?

What is the opinion of the grandmother?

You have not stated, whether your grand mother, the FD account holder, is still alive or dead. However, if the FD account holder, the mother of your father is still alive, neither you, as the legal heir of your father/ grandmother, nor your father's sister (even as nominee) can claim the proceeds of the FD..
