Applicability of rti

One of the private bank given me this satement "Banks are not under the control of any public authorities the provision of seeking information under the Right to Information Act, 2005 are not applicable."

Is RTI is not applicable to the private banks. How to get the information of the details of decesed accounts holders from the bank.theit ground is like "Please note that, under the provisions of the Banking Regulation Act 1949 and as per the guidelines of RBI on confidentiality norms to be adhered to by the Banks, we are restrained from disclosing any information relating to our customers"

you can file to RBI regarding bank details about the pvt bank. they will give the information.

Under section 8 of RTI is fully exceptional to disclose details.

The banker is right.

The bank is supposed to reveal the account details only to the concerned account holder.

Regarding the RTI no private institution is bound by the RTI. Only govt and govt aided institutions come under RTI.

The legal heirs of the deceased can seek information from the bank, by producing proof.
