What is a paper book?

Querist : Anonymous (Querist) 23 September 2011 This query is : Resolved
Hello and thank you in advances for any detailed responses to my query.

We have a first appeal pending in High court. Lawyers say they are waiting on a Paper book before setting a hearing date. Two dates have come and gone, yet no paperbook!!

So what is a paper book, what does it have in it, what role does it play in first appeal, how long does it normally take to get it, and is there a fee involved to get this. What ways can be used to expedite the process to obtain this paper book?

When all the appeal papers - index, memo of parties, list of dates, impugned order, grounds of appeal, annexures, affidavits, various miscellaneous applications that might have been filed along with the appeal - like application for interim orders etc., are required to be stitched in a proper manner after putting a proper paper cover. This is called 'Paper Book'. Since it resembles a book after stitching (not binding) and contains the complete case papers as filed by the petitioner or appellant, it is called 'paper book'. Since it is in a stitched form, it becomes very handy to all - whether it is the registry, the judges etc., for handling as also for referring the complete case papers.

Really it is surprising note that the appellant's lawyers are stated to be waiting for 'paper book'. In fact, it is the appellant who ought to have submitted the 'paper book' to the Court. Therefore where from the lawyers are awaiting the paper book - that too for such a long period - when two hearing dates had passed by, is beyond my comprehension.

well explained what a paper book is called!!
surely now you need nothing to understand about a paper book which is nothing but the file of the case from lower court to date, each and every thing tagged serially in form of a book, generally translated in English,if the lower court records are in Hindi or other language.
And it is duty of appellant to get it prepared,
