Sir, My father bought a plot in 1989 in Vizag and till now we have not paid any property tax on it as we live in Chennai for the last 20 years. I would like to know can we pay property tax at a later stage when we wish to build a house on it ??.

It is better to contact the concerned Municipality to know the arrears of tax and pay the same.

Is it property tax or land tax? The property tax is levied by the municipal authorities whereas the land revenue assessment, by the State Revenue officers. In Andhra Pradesh small unirrigated holdings are exempted from payment of land tax from1985 or thereabouts, when NTR had been the Chief Minister. Please verify.
