To check corruption in judiciary, the Union government will introduce Judicial Accountability and Standard Bill 2009 in the coming session of Parliament, Union Law Minster M Veerappa Moily has said.

Minister Moily, however, defended Indian judiciary and said, ‘It is wrong to tarnish the image of otherwise excellent judiciary on the basis of few black sheep.’ Ghaziabad PF scandal case cannot be closed due to the death of main accused Ashutosh Asthana and the entire nation is watching, he said.

According to Mr Moily, Union Law Ministry is keeping a close watch and will try to ensure that the truth about the cause of the death of Asthana is revealed and guilty, if any, be brought to books.

Notably, on the basis of the statement of Asthana, who was Nazjir (treasurer) of Ghaziabad District Court Treasury, under Section 164 recorded by special Judge Rama Jain, an FIR was registered against 85 people.

Asthana has also named 36 judges as beneficiaries and the judges include one sitting Supreme Court judge, 11 judges of Allahabad and Uttarakhand High Courts and 24 district judges.

The apex court for the first time permitted police interrogation of the sitting judges.
