Keeping in mind the security scenario in the national capital ahead of the Assembly polls next month, Delhi Police on Thursday issued an order prohibiting carrying firearms or any other material which can be used for causing physical violence in the city. The order, issued by city police Commissioner Y S Dadwal, will remain in effect till 15th December. Police has prohibited carrying firearms- including licenced ones-- cudgels, swords, spears, bludgeons, knives, sticks or lathis or any other article which is capable of being used for causing physical violence, the order said. However, the order has exempted those "professing, believing or following" Sikhism from its purview saying they may "carry or possess" a 'kirpan'. "Carrying of any corrosive substance or explosives and carrying, collection or preparation of stones or other missiles or instruments or means of casting or impelling missiles" has also been prohibited. Those found violating the order would be punished for not less than four months which may be extended to one year along with fine, Dadwal said in the order. Meanwhile, police has already started the process of identifying "troublesome" or "sensitive" polling stations in the capital. The exercise comes in the backdrop of Delhi Electoral office asking the police to identify sensitive areas as per new Assembly boundaries defined under delimitation process. They will then be further divided into communally sensitive places and areas from where bogus voting has been reported in the past or where situation is "not conducive".
