Written statement - detailed or brief?

Should a Written Statement from the Defendant containing material facts be detailed or very brief? I find that that it is not easy to get the point across by being brief and there is a need to add at least some explanation also.

WS should be to the point with causes , lengthy and unnecessary details shd be avoided
