Witnesses

Dear Sir,

I just want to chaeck it

in case of any legal doc i.e. affidavit & power of attorney, witness is requuired to affix their signature with their name only,

or they should mention their address with father name.

Is their any ruling or act in this regard.

essentials-- the essential attributes of an affidavit are.:i)it must be a decleration made by a person 2)it must relates to facts3)it must be in writing4)it must be in the first person and contain identity ie-age address, parentage.it must have been sworn or affirmed before a magistrate orany other authorised officer.            (Veerbhadra raovs Tek chandAIR1985 sc 28. see also s  3(3)  General clauses act1897

Not all documents require witness/attestation, unless statute mandates so. Ordinarily full name and address of such witnesses should be mentioned beneath their signature to identify and locate them in future. However, I  do not recall any judgment on this point
