whether registration of law firm is compulsary

As you said firm, if it is a partnership firm, registration is not mandatory. But it is adviseable to register it. 

Registration is optional.It is better to get it registred with Registrar of Firms under Partnership Act.

Dear Alpesh,

Incorporation of Law Firm is neither much complicated nor mandatory. But to avail Legal benefits and avoid taxation and other issues  it is advisable to get it registered.

You can start your Law Firm in Partenership, Limited Liablitiy Partnership .

But the essential requirement in Partnership is, all the partners must be Registered with State Bar Council as  Practicing Advocate. I'll suggest you to go for LLP, it time saving and Tax saving mode of incorporation.
