Voluntary Retirement

What is the effective date in case of a voluntary retirement (VR)? The date when the proposal for VR is accepted or the date on which the employee seeking VR is to be relieved? This question becomes important in a situation when the employee whose VR application has been accepted dies before he is relieved from the service.

it should be date of acceptance. my opinion is based upon Sc judgment cited as AIR2003(SC)4050 where the terminal beniefit of employees were calculated from the date of acceptance of the application for VRS and not from the date of relieving the employees.
