us visa marital status clarification

My wife and I have been living separately for 2 years due to family issues, but I am not sure if I will align in the future, but I am not legally separated.

Now I am planning to travel to the USA. In DS160 or any visa application, they ask for my wife's name. Do I have to mention it? In my passport, I see the separated option, mentioned the same. In the visa application, I don't see that option.

What consequences do I mention the wrong marital status in my visa application?
What happens if mention my friend's name as a wife and travel together?

You are creating a substantial evidence to work against your own future.

There's nothing wrong in writing as separated instead of adding a  totally different person as your spouse.

This may create problems for you in case of matrimonial disputes

your currant status is married and not legally seperated, if you submitted wrong information you can lose your visa and entry to US. Better to mention the real leagl status not the one by choice.
