Unable to get the upc code for porting the number

Dear Sir/Madam,

The query is regarding the porting of mobile number from Jio to another network.

I got the message "UPC cannot be generated as there are subsisting contractual obligations with your service provider. Please contact your service provider for further assistance" after sending a PORT message to 1900. They are saying that it's part of the Jio Phone 2021 offer so they won't allow porting number within 36 months.  As per TRAI, we can port after 90 days right?

The TRAI ruling in this regard may be on a generla note, whereas the Jion rules may be different which is not binding especially if the terms are based on the scheme by which you purchased the services 

However the TRAI rules is that 

  • You should have completed 90 days (from the date of activation of your mobile connection) with your current operator.
  • You should have cleared all outstanding payments with your current operator.
  • You should have no pending request for a change of ownership of the mobile number.
  • Your mobile number you wish to port should not be sub-judice i.e., it should not be involved in any case pending before a Court of Law.
  • Hence you can issue a legal notice to the Jio phone about it and ask them to explain under which authority are they restricting this port facility, failing to get a response you can approach consumer forum for relief and remedy or TRAI
