time limit of filing f.i.r. or case

someone had abused my friend who is a girl before 3 years on Facebook. can she file a complaint and a case against him now ?
.
what are the limitations of time for filing any case after which we can no take any actions against anyone's wrong deeds?

Quick Summary
Generally, there's no strict time limit for filing an FIR for cognizable criminal offences in India. However, for non-cognizable offences, like the Facebook abuse described, the police cannot lodge an NCR or investigate after three years without a magistrate's order. The credibility of a complaint filed after such a long delay, especially without documentary evidence, may also be questioned.

Is there any documentary evidence? Mere oral version, after such long passage of time, lacks credibility.
