The Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act is a law which came into force on 31 December 2007, after being passed by the Parliament of India and thereby receiving the President’s assent on 29 December 2007

Applicability: As per section 1(2), the Act extends to the whole of India and also to the citizens who
are citizens of India, residing outside India

Objective: The Preamble of the Act conveys effective provisions for maintenance and welfare of
parents and senior citizens guaranteed and recognized under the Constitution of India
