The Information Technology (Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures and Sensitive Personal Data or Information) Rules, 2011, commonly known as the IT Rules, were introduced by the Government of India to ensure the protection of sensitive personal data or information. These rules mandate the implementation of reasonable security practices and procedures by entities that collect, store, or handle such data. The official site for the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology provides detailed information on these rules, including the scope of application, the obligations of entities, and the penalties for non-compliance.
