Signature verification by police

Respected Experts,

One of my friend has received a call from the police station that they have received one complaint against him for forging of signature of the complainant and they have asked him to get original documents which are three years old which contains the complainant signature for sending them to forensic lab for verification of the signatures...

My query is whether police are having the jurisdiction to call for such records based on any complaint and also kindly enlighten if the police station mishandled the originals.. what remedy

The police can summon the documents under section 91 Cr. P. C for the purpose of investigation, refusal to furnish them may lead to legal consequences.

Yes, the police has to investigate and verify facts / documents referred therein the FIR / complaint before submission to Trial Court.

What is your personal dispute/problem / locus standi as present case is state to be concerned with one of your friend's ?

To my knowledge and understanding, the alleged complaint and investigation, if true, is misdirected.
