@Querist,
Since an advocate understands the significance of wordings used in a notice, it's better to take help of the same.
However, there is no such compulsion. If you are able,you too can give reply to the notice.

It is not essential that reply of notice be sent through lawyer, receiver of notice if able to reply can send himself.

It would be advantagous better and benficial for you to send reply of legal notice through a local prudent lawyer.
