Recognition of open university degrees

SirsI have done my MBA from YCMO University, Nashik. When  applied for admission to PH D in management at Shivaji University, Kolhapur, they said that this university does not recognise YCMOU   MBA( as their academic council has taken a decision in this regard), whereas Pune university very well recognises the same. The UGC and Association of Indian Universities , through their websites say that the degrees awarded by open universities are to be treated at par with the conventional universities. Can any one pls advice what is the legal position? can the decision of Shivaji University be challenged in the court of law? If so how? R G Ratnawat

Hi,

SC court has recently ruled out that open university degrees are not eligible for pursuing LLB, in view of maintaining the quality of legal education.  This reveals that SC is supporting this idealogy of not recognizing open university degrees.

Even institutions like IIMs do not recognize these open university degrees.

Cheers,
