Procedure for producing a witness in civil suit be defendant

In a civil suit the defendant had taken permission of the court to produce his witnesses to support his case.

The defendant is fighting the case as party in person

Can some one please clarify whether some petition/application  under crpc is requirted to be submitted giving details of the witnesses alone with the affidavits of the witnesses
