Precautions before a marriage

My cousin brother is getting married to his girlfriend after a long time of courting. It is a marriage between 2 people of different religions. There is no dowry involved at all.

I would like to know what precautions he can take before the marriage to protect himself and his family from 498a and all such laws, in case this marriage goes bad for any reason in future.

Give suggestion to him to take marriage certificate from the registrar of marriages office.

Take a affidavit from father of of girlfriend and other family members that they are not going to spend anything on the name of dowry in this marrige. This affidavit will save your family from any future expected problem.

@experts

All this 'precautions before marriage to avoid 498a' --> does it really work? Any statement or affidavit or witnesses will only

cover 'at the time of marriage'. But a false complaint can still be registered for dowry harassment 'After marriage'.

Of course with that statement/affidavit precaution - there will be less to prove in case  of a case.

The only precaution is to research on the girl and her family's background well before the marriage. Check to see if they have any family or friends in Police, Legal departments. Assess their nature - are they arrogant, aggressive or cordial in nature. It takes time, but the old fashioned 'good family background' still holds true - except these days it needs to be verified first.

Other being of course, to abandon your family and live with the girl separately so she cant include anybody and everybody in her future litigations.

And finally, not to disclose your financial status to the girl until you are confident.  Money is a very strong incentive and if that is not there, chances of such litigations may be reduced.

Love Marriage  - but still NoTrust Marriage.
