Notice period to owner

Hi Experts

I had a rental agreement from Aug-2012 to July-2013 for eleven months.On May-2013 i have given notice to the owner for vacating the home.But owner insist me to stay for 3 months or to pay the rent.But in agreement notice mentioned as one month.

Kindly guide me how to resolve.

Whatever condition is applicable in your agreement that would apply. In your case as you said, agreement states one month notice hence one month notice shall be applicable.

Notice period might have been fixed and that may be one month. However, when the owner is isisting to live for a period of three months means that there must be some lock-in period. Go through the terms and conditions.
