Will the Minister of LAW AND JUSTICE be pleased to state: (a) whether Government plans to curtail the renewal of certificates of notary after initial appointment; (b) if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor; (c) whether such a step of restricting the overall term of notaries for a period of upto 15 years is unnecessary, unjustified and is not needed; and (d) if so, whether Government would re-consider its decision and maintains status quo for the term of notaries and if not, the reasons therefor?

ANSWER (a) to (d) A proposal to amend the Notaries Act, 1952 for providing a limit on renewal of certificates of practice of notaries by way of the Notaries (Amendment) Bill, 2021 was circulated to the State/UT Governments etc. as a part of Pre- Legislative consultation process with stakeholders. The comments of stakeholders are under examination and no decision has been taken to change the status quo as existing on date.
Can someone please respond whether the Notaries (Amendment) Bill 2021 has been passed or not. Thanking you all in advance.
