Hi,
I gave some post dated cheques to an entity sometime back and now I have issued stop payment instruction to the bank. Also, I initimated the same to firm to which I issued the check. Also, I returned the material that they gave me during the transaction. Now the firm is not willing to accept my proposal of returning the cheques.
What should I do? Can they file a valid case against me as per NI act?

Give them a legal notice describing all the facts and ask them to return the cheques.

Can they take legal action against me as per Negotiable act if the post dated cheque is dishonoured?

Yes definately, consult a good local advocate and give a legal notice demanding the cheques back.

Serve a Notice through some local Advocate mentioning the Cheque Numbers and asking to return the same. In case of not returing, file a Civil Suit for Mandatory Injunction.
