National Human Rights Commission asks states to pay Rs 1 cr in damages for custody deaths !!!

New Delhi, Dec 23: National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has recommended nearly Rs one-crore compensation to kin of victims of 75 custody deaths cases reported since 2005, the Lok Sabha was informed on Tuesday.

Uttar Pradesh Government has topped the compensation pay out list as it has been asked to pay Rs 21.5 lakhs to the kin of victims of custody deaths in 14 cases in the last four years, Minister of State for Home Ministry Shakeel Ahmed said.

Quoting the data available from the NHRC, Ahmed said the year-wise break up shows that while in 2005, the compensation amount was Rs 3.50 lakhs (six cases), it increased to Rs 5.25 lakhs (seven cases), Rs 34.20 lakhs (24 cases) and Rs 56.25 lakhs(38 cases) in the following consecutive years.

In 2008, Rs 16-lakh compensation has been recommended in nine cases in Uttar Pardesh while Andhra Pradesh was told to pay Rs eight lakhs in eight cases reported from the state.

Overall, in 2008, 14 states including Assam, Maharashtra, Orissa, Jharkhand, Gujarat, Bihar and Delhi were asked to pay compensation against custody deaths.

the spy cameras have to install in all investigating centres and the has to review whenever itis needed.


when it come in to light, the police shall be charged with offence underSec 302 of IPC and the exeplary damages to the victims or heirs of victims.
