My first court case

Hi,

I am a new lawyer and has taken first brief to defend  a case of a client.

Client has filed (which I prepared) written statement to the court.

Can someone guide me next steps/ process?  How do I file my Vakalatnama? Any stamp duty to be paid along with Vakalatnama in Pune, Maharashtra? What may happen in the next hearing?

Kindly guide.

Thanks!

Hi Ambarish,

Good Luck.

First you need to be engaged by your client i.e. a.k.avakalatnama / poa. Same should be stamped. This is available preprinted in court premises.

Second you should file a memorandum of appearance..containing the following :

          (a) the names of the parties to the suit,

        (b) the name of the party for whom he appears, and

        (c) the name of the person by whom he is authorized to appear:

Pls. read   Order III of the CPC for details.
