Legality score of defation of girl in newspaper

recently one murde happened in pune and girl is defamed in newspaper by all means my reference is that I almost had sugarbox ceremony 20 yr ago but girl was influential family that time we got to know she had affair but to what extend we dont know but we still on evidence gathering face since they are influential court case will be heavy our lawyer advice to collect proper proof and put in newspaper first without putting name and explicitly threaten them but those people are villaige they may consider as blackmail plz advice
