Legal heirship

In Karnataka State, how to obtain a Legal Heirship Certificate wrt to Property inheritences. Is an affidavit given with a Family Tree duly endorsed by Tahsildar, the Final one.

Quick Summary
This discussion explains how to obtain a Legal Heirship Certificate in Karnataka for property inheritance. Generally, revenue authorities like the Tahsildar or SDM handle these applications. You'll need to submit a petition with the death certificate, family tree, and other relevant documents. While a family tree can be part of the application, it's not always the final endorsed document required, and the revenue authorities have their own procedures. If disputes arise, you may need to approach the civil court.

You are to file an application before area Tehsildar / SDM for issuance of Surviving / Legal Heir Certificate and proceed for partition of properties left behind by deceased as per his / her personal laws through a local prudent lawyer.

It is the general policy that Revenue authorities issue legal heir certificate. They have their own for providing the cerficate. You cannot insist that Family Tree be endorsed.
