law on breakup angagement

I am of the view that such case is clearly a personal matter between adult individual as boy friend and girl friend and Court and the police have no role to play if  one ditches the other. However if they entered into a covenant for marriage and break the engagement, the aggrieved party to the engagement may claim compensation against the other party, but this is my personal views only.

It is breach of promise of marriage and a civil suit for damages lies.
