Is it mandatory to get stamp duty receipt in the name of first party only?

Is it mandatory to get stamp duty receipt in the name of first party only? If a person is making sale deed as a purchaser with wife as co applicant, can he take stamp duty receipts in wife's name and himself being first part and wife being second part.
