Is an atheist a criminal, cheat or a despicable person?

Is an atheist a criminal, cheat or a despicable person in any other manner? Are superstitions our cherished tradition, which should be protected? At least Hindu Janajagruti Samiti seems to think so. It is an organization to protect Hinduism and its traditions from their enemies in India. I saw the following in their website.

“The atheist chief executives of Andha-shraddha Nirmulan Samiti/ 'Naastikvaadi Vichaar Manch' (ANS) viz. Dr. Shyam Manav and Dr. Narendra Dabholkar have taken a pledge to pass the draconian anti-faith bill with the support of a few political party members. The bugle was blown by HJS through the medium of an agitation against the proposed 'Maharashtra Narabali (human sacrifice), Yauvan shoshan (exploitation of adolescence), Amanavi Aghori krutya (inhuman dreadful action) Act, 2005' [Anti-superstitions Act]. More than 300 workers belonging to various Sects, Sampradayas and organizations participated in the agitation held on 21st April at Azhad Maidan, Mumbai. The overwhelming response indicates the spread of a fiery zeal in the form of an agitation all over Maharashtra.”

Are Narabali (human sacrifice) and Amanavi Aghori krutya (inhuman dreadful action) are practices that we should be proud of? It is said that there are people in Kasi (Varanasi), who eat dead bodies. They are called Aghoris.

Mr. Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, a staunch Hindu nationalist, was an atheist. He also said that a cow is just an animal useful to man.

Prof: J. B. S. Haldane a noted bio-scientist and an Englishman was an atheist. He did experiments on his own body. He converted himself to a Hindu, dressed himself like a Hindu, acquired Indian citizenship and settled in India. The reason stated by him was Hinduism gave freedom of belief.

The original definition of the word “hypocrite” was one who is actually an atheist, who pretends outwardly as a pious person. Nowadays it refers to a person, who is bad in thought, but outwardly a good person. Again I ask, is it a crime to be an atheist?
