How can an unexplained excess property extent be verified from official land records?
I am seeking guidance regarding an apparent discrepancy in the extent of a neighbouring property in Tamil Nadu.
The parent record is stated to contain an extent of approximately **5 cents**, while two subsequent registered documents relating to portions of the property appear to record a combined extent that is **97 sq.ft. more than the stated parent extent**.
My question is how this additional extent should be verified from official records.
I have requested verification of the relevant:
* Parent patta and title records
* Registered documents and their schedules
* TSLR records
* FMB records
* Survey and subdivision records
* Survey sketches
* Four boundaries mentioned in the documents
I am **not asking for cancellation of any registered document or adjudication of private title**. I am seeking guidance on the documentary and survey records that can establish whether the additional 97 sq.ft. has an official basis.
I would appreciate guidance from members experienced in Tamil Nadu property law, registration, survey, patta, TSLR and FMB records on:
1. What records should be examined to reconcile the difference in extent?
2. How can the source of the additional extent be established?
3. Can FMB, TSLR or subdivision records establish whether the additional area was officially surveyed?
4. If no supporting official record is found, how should that fact normally be recorded?
5. If the discrepancy potentially affects an access pathway or boundary, what survey procedure would normally be appropriate?
I am particularly interested in **record-based and procedural guidance** rather than a conclusion on title or ownership.
