GOA CUTS VAT RATE ON COUNTRY LIQUOR

The country liquor is set to become cheaper in the tourist State from Wednesday as the rate of value added tax (VAT) on the it has been reduced from 10 per cent to 5 per cent. The State Government, as proposed in the Budget for 2010-2011, has amended the VAT rates of certain commodities effective from Tuesday. According to the amendments all the commodities, other than declared goods, which are taxable at 4 per cent, shall be taxable at 5 per cent and declared goods will continue to be taxable at 4 per cent, but under separate entry No.16 of schedule “C”, according to the State Department of Commercial Taxes.
