Foreign travel insurance

People take travel insurances while going abroad, for example from Thomas Cook in india. Ans when one goes abroad he is either travelling or staying at home, hotel etc.

The terms & conditions in travel insurance repeatedly say harm , injury , accident etc etc while travelling.

In this background please advise whether travel insurance covers injury, accident  etc while not travelling, for exapmle staying at home during the foreign stay?

Hello

The Scope of Cover and Benefits offered by different insurance companies would vary. You must shop around to ensure that you purchase a policy that you need. The following are covers that are generally provided under Travel Insurance- though the combination may vary. The list, however, is not exhaustive.

  • Medical Expenses with or without cashless facility (most travel insurance products offer cashless facility)
  • Personal Accident
  • Loss of Baggage
  • Delay in Baggage arrival
  • Loss of Passport
  • Travel Delay
  • Repatriation
  • Transportation of dead body etc.                                                                                                                                                                                                                        It is very important for you to understand what to do in case a claim situation arises abroad. Generally policies provide hotline numbers where intimation of claim/s should be given. You must also notify the concerned authorities involved eg, local police, embassy, transportation company etc, as applicable. The insurer also should be notified. Normally, every travel insurance policy docket will also contain a claim form as you will be away in a distant place and may not be in a position to obtain a claim form immediately.

The beneits you desire depend upon the policy document. The terms and conditions or say services, you intend to hire may be got included subject to the clear mention in th edocument. It is not worthy to write here that the ompanies do charge their premium in consonance with the services hired.
