Father's job claimed by daughter

Hi My father was an govt.employee. After he died my step sister took over the job. My mom got the pension. All together we are 3 siblings including step sister. She got the job and she did not gave even our pocket money till today. Now she got married. With only my mother's pension we can fullfilled our education. What help can we take now from the law so that atleast we can continue our studies? Please suggest us.

Quick Summary
This discussion explores the legal avenues available when a step-sibling inherits a deceased father's government job but fails to support other siblings. It clarifies the concept of compassionate appointment, where a dependent family member can be appointed to a government post if the employee dies before retirement. The advice suggests seeking maintenance for educational expenses from the step-sister, especially if she secured the job on compassionate grounds, as she may have provided an undertaking to support dependents.

You may seek maintainance in the form of educational expenses from your step-sister. Of course, this is an untested ground. There is a fair chance of success given that she would have, in the routine course, furnished an undertaking to that effect while taking up the job on compassionate ground.

"...........if your step sister wasn't appointed under compassionate grounds because your father died when he was still in the Govt. service ............."

Mr. Om Prakash - I am perplexed as to what is compassionate appointment, Kindly enlighten me.
