Expenses of witnesses in criminal trial

In criminal trials in the court of a magistrate, e.g., in dowry matters, unlike prosecution witnesses whose expenses (travel + Diet) are paid by government, is accused supposed to bear expenses of defense/his own witnesses in the states of Haryana/Punjab? Can experts plz guide on this.

Thank you.

Govind

Quick Summary
This discussion clarifies who is responsible for the expenses of defence witnesses in criminal trials in Haryana and Punjab. Unlike prosecution witnesses, whose costs are covered by the government, the accused individual must personally bear the expenses for their own defence witnesses. If an accused person is unable to afford these costs, they can apply for legal aid to receive free legal representation.

Hello,

Accused has to bear his expense himself. If he is unable to bear the expenses and fees to defend his case in that case he can apply for legal aid for free advocate to defend his case.
