Dependency status

Dear Sir

I am in a dilemma whether my mother who stays with me is my dependent or not according to my employer's medical rules.

Sir, my mother is 54 years. I lost my father 5 years back. My mother stays with me and I am a PSU employee.

The rules for a dependent parent for medical inclusion is that the dependents monthly income from any source should not cross Rs 3500/-. Till date my mother used to receive Rs 2051/- as Widow Pension. There is no other income nor deposits in her name. But from Feb 2015 my mother started receiving another Rs.2000/- under a private insurance pension scheme. This Rs 2000/- is because of a pension policy bought by my elder brother in my mothers name. The premiums were paid by my elder brother, myself and mostly from the money my father had left behind.

The total money which now my mother will start receiving will be Rs 2051 + 2000 = Rs. 4051/- which is well above Rs 3500/- .

Please suggest whether the Rs 2000/- from the private insurance company will be considered as Income. I doubt it because its our own money which we are getting back monthly.

Thank You.
