Copyright act query

Pl guide me. I have a query about copyright of songs. In the orcheshtra or anywhere in the public function, award function there are performances on hindi film songs. IS there any need to take permission from the concerned copyright owner for playing the song there. If permission is not taken, is it offence? Copying the songs from purchased CD from mobile is offence under copyright Act or not? Please answer the question.

Go through the Berne Convention:

For things in the Public Domain, anyone can reproduce..like Beethoven for instance.

music whether Indian or international played anywhere in public whether party, awards function etc will have to take licence and pay licence fee from orginisations like PPL and/or IPRS.Only then will it be legal to play if not it will attract penal provisions. Music bought on a cd cannot be replicated on to another cd or any device for commercial gains.
