Codicil is meant to carry out an amendment, rectification, mofidication (in some parts) of the WILL already made.  

This procedure of codicil requires that both the old WILL and the Codicil is always maintained and kept in tact side by side, as both have to be read simultaneously, and only then the rectification/modification/amendment sought to be carried out through the Codicil in the WILL will carry the meaning.  If for any reason, the Codicil is lost or misplaced and not linked and read with the original WILL, the original mistake/error in the WILL will continue and the effect of the Codicil will get lost.

Therefore, it is advisable, to write a Fresh WILL instead of getting into the mode of writing a Codicil.
