Co op housing societies

Can daughter of member can attend AGM though she is not associate member

Quick Summary
This discussion clarifies whether a member's daughter can attend a co-op housing society's Annual General Meeting (AGM). While she is permitted to attend, her presence will not be officially registered, and she will not have the right to vote. This is because she is not an associate member of the society.

Why? What is the context?

Dr. J C Vashista (Advocate )     22 September 2026

She may attend the AGM of the Society but neither her attendance shall be registered (she cannot sign the proceeding registered) nor she has a right to vote, if required.

Advocate M.Bhadra   22 September 2026

A member's daughter may attend the AGM as an accompanying/guest person, subject to the Society's bye-laws and the permission of the Chairman. However, unless she is herself a member/associate member entitled under the applicable bye-laws, she cannot participate in the proceedings as a member or exercise any voting right. Her attendance should not be treated as the attendance of the member for quorum or voting purposes.
