Clarification on cross-exam.

PW1 (wife) has reitrated fir contents in her evidence before court. In one of the allegations contained in fir, PW4 ( relative)
has given a quite differant version before court wheras in his earlier written statement before police, the version was according to fir as reitrated by PW1. In this background, should we confront statement of PW4 in cross or let it remain untouched and highlight it in arguments so that it may create a dent in prosecution story.
Though my counsel has advised that it should not be touched in cross as PW4 may manipulate it according to his earlier statement which is according to PW1, However, I want to seek opinion of forum members.
Thanks.
