Hello, Learned Counsel,

Can anyone explain me “ Application of Secondary Rules of Interpretation” in the Law School?

Secondary rule of interpretation are-

Noscitur a sociis - it is used  when a word is ambiguous, Noscere means to know and sociis means association.  This means that words in a list within a statute have meanings that are related to each other. If multiple words having the same meaning then they are put together and are to be understood in their collective meaning.

Ejusdem Generis - This means when two or more specific descripttors are followed by more general descripttors, the otherwise wide meaning of the general descripttors must be restricted to the same class. The terms listed are similar enough to constitute a class then the courts will presume, in interpreting the general words that follow, that they are intended to apply only to things of the same genus as the particular items listed.

REDDENDO SINGULA SINGULIS - When a list of words has a modifying phrase at the and a complex sentence has more than one subject.

regards
