I went to the passport office with all documents for name change. But they said they won't do it.
I am from Chennai, and here our father's name becomes our surname. For instance, let's say my name is Suresh and my father's name is Kumaraswamy. So my name on passport becomes given name: Suresh, Surname: Kumaraswamy. I changed my surname to Kumar (advertising in papers, affidavit etc.), so my present name is Suresh Kumar. But the passport guys refuse to change surname Kumaraswamy to Kumar, saying since my surname and father's name are one, changing surname woud impl;y changing father's name. Which they won't do.
Can they really do such a thing? I am utterly frustrated by this. I can't even change my own name?
