Can i file a fir after 6 months ?

a learned member of this forum just suggested me something... so putting the same question to all seniors of this forum..........

My bitter half has been hitting me earlier too but about 6 months back she hit me, i got wounds and then i got a MLC done in a govt hospital with a police complaint. Did not get any thing done on the same ? but now........can i file a FIR against her under IPC 325 and 323....after 6 months ? Is there a time limit to do so ????

Limitation period is same as the punishment of the offense. For eg , if you want to file fir for simple hurt and it's punishment is 12 months then the fir should be filed before 12 months from date of cause of action means the day u suffered hurt.
