Can i apply for rti directly ?

Hi All,

Should I always check locally with the officials before applying for an RTI?
Or can I directly apply for an RTI without approching them atleast once?
How will they come to know, if one has checked with official directly?
Does it mean the local official is not a PIO, then?
Please let me know more on this.

Thanks Sunil Kumar.

Dear Sunil. Any body who is a citizen of india can file RTI application seeking information. The information you sought for must be given by the PIO within a period of 30 days other wise you can apply to 1st appallate Authority or state Soochana commissioner against the PIO unless he provide the information within the prescribed period.
