value should be as per stamp act. if adocument is required to be registered it must be registered and the agreement is written on stamp paper . if necessary, plain paper is added. use of  letter head or plain paper is immaterial.

However, under-value stamped document can be amended, when the subject is in dispute, in the court of law, by paying penalty of Rs.5000/- in addition to the true denomination of the stamp for said document as per the stamp Act.

For a document to be admissible for evidence, it has to be adequately stamped ..else it can be looked into for collateral purpose

only regd., deeds will be admitted as an evidence. deeds like agreement of sale or sale deed or partnership deed on compulsority executed on the stamp papers.  even company agreements on letter head and white papers are admissable

Agreement could be expressed or implied. Agreement made on a piece of paper and on stamp paper stands on a same footage unless registered before registering authority. However, if any deed is mandatority required to be put on requisite stamp papers then only it should be put on requisite stamp papers. Contract on companies letter head and duly signed by authorised signatories of both parties constitute valid contract.

Is it necessary to sign on all pages of an agreement? Is it enough if one signs on the last page?

Swami Sadashiva Brahmendra Sar (Nil)     19 March 2010

Dear Aswini,

Signing on each page is necessary . It is safegaurd against risk of any subsequent tampering.

Ajay Kumar (Manager)     19 March 2010

suppose a person signs a statement on the last page of the agreement saying the he has read the entire agreement and understood its implications and that he is signing only on the last page. will it be valid? my question is in the context of agreements by financial services companies whose agreements are in booklet form with numerous pages and signing on all pages requires a lot of time and effort.
