420 read with 511

sir one of my friend was driving his friends second hand vechile which was not having no number plate due to which a police officer logged a complaint under IPC sec 420,511.so my question is what can my friend do now?

he is in real trouble, he has to prove the wonership of vehicle,If he can prove the ownership of vehicle he is free
