As per the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) a total of 426 cases were registered under the Prevention of Women from domestic Violence Act, 2001 in 2014 and a total of 461 similar such cases were registered in 2015. Out of these a total of 18 cases fell into the category of Final Reports False (FRFALs) in 2014 & a total of 10 FRFALs were reported in 2015.

Under the Category of ‘Cruelty by Husband or his relatives (Section 498A IPC)’ during 2014, 122877 cases were registered under this whereas 113403 cases were registered in 2015. Out of this, 8144 cases fell under FRFALs in 2014 and 7458 cases fell under FRFALs in 2015.

Adequate safeguards are available under existing laws to deal with misuse of legal provisions, if any. There is no proposal under consideration to amend the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005.

This information was given by the Minister of State in the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Smt. Krishana Raj in the Rajya Sabha today.
